It’s official! Comfort Research of Grand Rapids has broken the Guinness Book of World Records for the biggest bean ban chair ever assembled.
The chair, which has been entered into ArtPrize 2017, was officially recognized on September 20th by Guinness judge Philip Robertson.
The chair is aptly named “Big Joe’s World’s Largest Bean Bag Chair” tips the scales at more than 4000 pounds and has a baseline measurement of 29 feet.
30 workers helped design, build, fill, and sow the gigantic bean bag. The outer fabric was painted by Justin Middleton, a local Grand Rapids artist.
Once complete, the bag was hoisted using a crane supplied by Rockford Construction onto the roof of the Lambert, Edwards & Associates building, at 47 Commerce Ave. in Grand Rapids.
The world’s largest bean bag chair record was previously held by Vaillant Group UK LTD. Comfort Research beat that record by more than double the size!
“We didn’t want to just beat it, we wanted to really beat it,” remarked Kristy Shurland, brand director at Comfort Research.
