While living in Chicago over 20 years ago, I used to frequent a little place down the street that sold excellent sandwiches and hot, tasty soups. (This was well before the modern era of a Subway and/or Jimmie John’s on every block.)
The place was called the Potbelly Sandwich Shop. Although the place had great food, I never considered it to be a place that would soon be expanding and franchising all over the country – and the world.
And little did I know that decades later I would be telling you about the opening of a THIRD Potbelly Sandwich shop in Grand Rapids!
On Tuesday March 22, 2016, Potbelly will open at the Village at Knapp’s Crossing – a spot that has seen a boon in eateries in recent months.
The new store address will be 2006 Beltline Ave NE and will most likely see alot of traffic given the excellent location and the amount of traffic that flows through that area every day.
“The community has been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new shop in Grand Rapids,” said Kaitlyn Hanrahan, the general manager, who worked her way up from an hourly employee to general manager in five years.
Potbelly Corporation owns and operates over 300 shops in the United States and franchisees operate over 20 shops nationwide, in the U.K. and even in the Middle East. This will be the 27th store opening in the state of Michigan.
On March 21, the shop will host Potbelly’s traditional pre-opening Oven Warming event from 11:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. for lunch, and 5-7 p.m. for dinner. Proceeds will be donated to the Grand Rapids nonprofit, Kids Food Basket.
